The Tunza Southeast Asia Youth Environment Network (SEAYEN) was jointly set up by the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Bayer and the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Council, Singapore, as part of UNEP’s global strategy for engaging youth in environmental issues. The network unites youth leaders from its 10 member countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and supports them in environmental sustainable development initiatives, enhancing environmental awareness and acting as youth ambassadors for the environmental conscience of young people in Southeast Asia.
 
Vision
To bridge youth leaders in environmental sustainable development, connecting regional and national participation in the way of training, action, decision making, etc.
 
Mission
To unite youths in activities to share experiences, stimulate cross-cultural and international actions, and participate in regional decision-making by providing the youth with voices in consultation on ASEAN environment for sustainable development issues.
 
Objectives
  • To create a youth space for discussion on the regional level on the environment for sustainable development.
  • To share best practices and capacity building opportunities to support youth leadership in ASEAN.
  • To mobilise youth to collaborate on environmental sustainable development in the South East Asia region.
  • To promote collaborative youth participation for advocacy on environmental sustainable development in the South East Asia region.
  • To promote collaborative youth participation to influence decision-making processes at the national and regional levels.
Secretariat
The UNEP SEAYEN is based at the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Council Secretariat in Singapore. The NYAA Council will help to coordinate youth environmental activities within ASEAN through its youth representatives.

TUNZA Strategy
The Tunza Youth Strategy is UNEP’s long-term plan to increase involvement of youths in environmental issues and in the work of UNEP. It aims to inspire and motivate young people to be involved in sustainable development issues and activities. The vision is to develop a generation of environmentally conscious citizens capable of initiating positive action with a voice to influence decision-making processes.
